Need to Know News - June 12th, 2026
In this week's Need to Know News edition:
🤖 Gemini now plugs into your Google Business Profile... and starts drafting review replies in your voice while reading your real sales numbers.
🤖 You current tracking might not see chatbot clicks... so Google Analytics built a way to finally track that hidden traffic.
🤖 ChatGPT scrapped its confusing Thinking labels... and replaced them with four plain settings so you stop guessing how hard the model should work.
And a whole lot more!
Gemini Will Read Your Reviews and Drafts Replies In Your Voice
Running a small shop means being CEO, marketer, and complaints desk before lunch. Google wants to hand some of that back. This month, Gemini connects straight to your Google Business Profile with one tap, then reads your real reviews, call data, and search numbers.

Ask how the month went and it answers from your actual storefront. It'll even draft review replies in your voice.
Meta Expands Off-Platform Data Use to Your Feed and AI
Meta is rewriting how it reads you. The data other businesses already hand over, the games you play, the things you buy elsewhere, has shaped your ads for years. Starting now, that same data will steer your Feed and your AI answers too.
One privacy switch also disappears. The "Your activity off Meta technologies" control is gone, folded into a single setting that still lets you say no. Across 3.5 billion daily users, that dial got simpler and far more

Shopify's Summer '26 Editions Come for Your Paid Apps
Shopify's Summer '26 Editions dropped more than 150 updates, led by native AI merchandising wired straight into admin. The platform now sorts collections by real conversion odds and suggests cart upsells on its own, no separate app needed.
That's the quiet power move. Checkout Components go live for Plus, native A/B testing arrives, and analytics charts land too, all jobs merchants used to rent from the App Store for a thousand-plus a year. The showcase hits June 17, so audit your app stack first.
Google Analytics Will Now Track Your Chatbot Traffic
A quiet problem is creeping up on every marketer: people now find you through ChatGPT and other chatbots, but your dashboard can't see them coming. That traffic just vanishes into a blind spot. Google Analytics wants to close it.

A new tool counts the real humans arriving from top AI assistants, then tracks and trends that flow right inside your reports. So as search shifts toward chatbots, you finally see where the clicks come from instead of guessing.
ChatGPT Renames Its Model Picker: Instant, Medium, High
OpenAI cleaned out the closet on its model picker. The old maze of Thinking Light, Standard, Extended, and Heavy is gone. In its place sit four plain labels: Instant, Medium, High, and Extra High.

Pick how much the model chews on a problem and move on. There's also a toggle so Instant can quietly bump itself to Medium when a task needs more brainpower. Plus and Pro users on web and phones get it today.
Apple Rebuilds Siri to Read Your Screen and Email
Apple tore Siri down to the studs and rebuilt it. The new Siri AI, running on Apple Intelligence, finally remembers your world. It can dig a hotel confirmation out of an old email, pull up trip photos, or answer follow-up questions in real conversation. It reads what's on your screen and reaches across apps to act.

A dedicated Siri app even syncs your chats between devices. Developers can test it today. The rest of us wait until later this year.
Hearst's Aura IQ Builds Ad Audiences From RFPs in Minutes
What used to eat an ad team's whole afternoon now takes minutes. Hearst Magazines, the publisher behind Esquire and Cosmopolitan, switched on Aura IQ, a platform that aims AI agents at the busywork of advertising.
Feed it the raw language of a brand's RFP and it builds a custom audience from scratch, no more cramming clients into pre-set buckets. Early tests across dozens of campaigns doubled clickthrough rates. It goes public at Cannes Lions.
DoorDash's New AI Chatbot Lets You Order With Prompts and Photos
Snap a photo of a recipe and DoorDash now fills your cart for you. The new chatbot, Ask DoorDash, takes plain English instead of endless scrolling. Tell it you want a filling dinner for four and it surfaces matching restaurants with a reason for each pick.

It reads cookbook pages and grocery lists, adds the right quantities, and nudges you to check whether you already have the butter. It can even books a date-night table.

NotebookLM Now Runs Code and Exports to PowerPoint
In head-to-head tests, the new NotebookLM beat its old version on web research nearly 8 times out of 10. Google rebuilt it on Gemini 3.5 and gave every notebook its own secure cloud computer that writes and runs code, backed by 100-plus ready-made skills.

Hand it messy data and it'll crunch the numbers, then return a PDF report, a spreadsheet, even a slide deck. Now you can start with just a half-formed question and let it find the sources.

Visa Lets ChatGPT Shop and Pay on Your Behalf
Telling a chatbot to buy your groceries is about to feel normal. Visa wired its payment network straight into ChatGPT, so the assistant can now shop and pay at nearly any store that takes a Visa card. Ask for wireless headphones under $150 and it finds a pair and buys them.
OpenAI tried this before with Instant Checkout, but a 4% merchant fee sank it by March. This time Visa handles the fraud checks, with spending caps and approval steps before money moves.
